Tennis Teams Make History!

For the first time ever, both the boys and girls tennis teams have qualified for the state tournament! It is the girls' second consecutive trip to the big dance; while it is the first time since 2007 that the boys have made it.

The girls (10-5) and boys (7-7) will find out on Tuesday or Wednesday where and when they will play their first round matches.

Great job Sturgis tennis and coaches Huckins and Hastings!

Did you also know that Coaches Huckins and Hastings also coached together to bring the boys soccer team to the state tournament last fall? We got a couple of great ones there!

Coed Lacrosse Breaks Through With Win!

The Sturgis Varsity Co-ed Lacrosse team won its first game of the season yesterday, 13-11, over Abington.

Coach Arcenas couldn't be happier with the team's performance.

Liz Lozada completed her hat-trick with an indescribable scoop/dive/I really don't know what to call it. Abbie Titcomb, Amelia Burns, Brandon Kinsey, and Chris DeDecko each added two to the Stugis total, while Chandler Alves and Vani Patel both struck late in the second half to keep the Storm ahead for a well-deserved 13-11 victory.

On the defensive side of the field, the starting unit of Fallin Dennen, Miranda Alves, and Brandon Kinsey completely shut down the Abington fast-break, while Sarah Sweeten did a great job of marking their leading scorer out of the game during the second half.

Girls Tennis Beats Harwich, Qualifies for States

The Sturgis Girls Tennis team defeated Harwich 3-2 at Harwich yesterday, securing a spot in the State Tournament for the second season in a row! The team improved its record to 7-2.

Olivia Sequin, Meghan Agostonelli and Lindsey Allin swept their singles matches to power the win! Congratulations to all Sturgis Athletes, as this marks the seventh consecutive season a Sturgis team has qualified for the state tournament! (Baseball 2008, Girls Soccer 2008, Boys Basketball 2009, Girls Tennis 2009, Boys Soccer 2009, Boys Basketball 2010)

Coach Brian Hastings has also become the first Sturgis coach ever to lead three teams to the state tournament.

Senior Captain Kate Weeks will become the first Sturgis athlete to ever compete in the state tournament three times.

A Good Day for Tennis Teams!

It was a successful day for our tennis teams yesterday, as the boys beat one of the Cape's top teams, Cape Tech, 3-2; and the girls defeated Mashpee, 4-1.

The boys doubles teams both won real close matches! Aiden Arneault and Chris Fink came back to win their first doubles match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-0; while Murylo Batista and Andrew Bell won two tie-breakers for a straight-sets win (7-6, 7-6, with both tie-breakers going 7-5)!

Max Young won in first singles, while Brenton Eddy and Conor DeCosta lost their singles matches.

The girls improved their record to 6-2 with a win over Mashpee. Megan Agostinelli (1) , Olivia Sequin (2) and Kate Weeks (3) all won in singles; while the first doubles team of Victoria Whipple and Nadine perry also won. Emmas Lass and Rachel Crafton lost in three sets in second doubles.

Storm Sends Harwich for a Ride!

Sturgis 8, Harwich 4

COTUIT – Zach Crockford battled through 6 2/3 innings, giving up six hits and an intentional walk and no earned runs as the Storm beat the Rough Riders at Lowell Park.

Crockford gave way to Dan Beckner, who came in with two on and two outs. A hit-batsman loaded the bases before Beckner shut the door and got out of the jam. He struck out two in the seventh inning and got a ground ball to end it.

Crockford was the offensive star for Sturgis (4-2), going 2-for-2 with two double, two walks and four runs scored.

Beckner went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Ricky Covell was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

Harwich (5-4) scored three in the third inning, but a batch of errors in the fourth allowed four runs to score for the Storm.

Softball Loses a Close One

The Sturgis Varsity Softball Team played its best game yet, losing a close one to South Shore Christian, 9-5, yesterday at Old Townhouse Field in Yarmouth. Leah Hayden pitched well, striking out 10. Blake Tower and Leanne Brothers led the offense and Heather Glenny played well at shortstop!

Boys Finish With Tough Loss to Excellent Opponent

The boys varsity basketball team lost at Hull, 85-50, last night in the first round of the state tournament.

A big thank you to our seniors, who played hard right up to the final seconds of the game, as exemplified by Dan Beckner taking a charge with under 30 seconds left!

Dan, Zac Arndt, Kyle Healy and Ben Porter all made us proud in their final Sturgis hoop game! The team finished with a 9-10 record.

Max Young finished the game with 25 points, a Sturgis MIAA Tournament Record!

Hats off to the Hull team, they played great!

Finally, we at the athletic department are especially proud of our cheerleaders and fans who conducted themselves flawlessly; with positive cheering, class and dignity from the start of the game to the finish! Great job!

We'll see you March 12th at the banquet at the Federated Church at 6 PM. Bring a big appetite!

Boys will play at Hull in State Tournament!

The boys basketball team is scheduled to play at Hull this Thursday, Feb 25th at 7 PM.

If you are interested in riding a fan bus to Hull contact us at 508-778-1782, ext. 233. The bus will leave around 4 PM and we'll be asking for a $5 donation to defray the cost of the bus.

There is also a signup sheet at the athletic bulletin board.

Game admission will cost $7 for Adults and $5 for students.

Girls Finish Strong With 27-22 Win

PROVINCETOWN – Brandon Kinsey got hot from 3-point land and the Sturgis boys basketball team qualified for the postseason in its final regular-season game with a 51-40 victory over Provincetown.

Kinsey finished with 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Max Young led with 17points for the Storm, which capped the regular season 9-9 and 2-4 in Lighthouse Conference play.

Yesterday was a must-win for Sturgis, which went 2-6 in games decided by six points or less this season. The Storm came out firing and never looked back, holding Provincetown leading scorer Zach Tobias to two points in the first half.

Tobias finished with 22 points and Danny Perneta added 12 – including three treys – for the Fishermen (1-17).

Another well-balanced, team effort led to a boys basketball victory over Norfolk Aggie last night.

On senior recognition night, senior Dan Beckner scored a career-high 13 points, many coming on fast-break layups. Max Young scored 12, many off hard-earned baskets in the paint. Ben Porter added 7 points.

HYANNIS – Max Young grabbed 17 rebounds and finished with 12 points for the Storm, which used a strong pressure defense and controlled the tempo in a victory over the Rams at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center.

Dan Beckner led with 13 points, Kyle Healy added nine points and Kyle White eight for Sturgis (8-7), which needs to win one of its final three games to qualify for the postseason.

The Storm led 30-16 at halftime, but Norfolk Aggie came back within eight points after the break.

Boys Beat Faculty For Fourth Straight Year!

The Antics of the Sturgis Faculty Dance Team (below) May have Taken Some Pressure Off The Faculty Basketball Team Last Friday Night

It's a good thing they can teach; because their hoop skills have a lot to be desired!

The Faculty gave it their all but lost to the varsity Friday night at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center. What the faculty lacked in skill, they made up for in lack of conditioning. Coaches Kennedy and Hastings led the faculty, which got NO respect from the Varsity. Or rather, they got all the respect they deserved!

In all seriousness, it was a fun night in front of a packed house, and the varsity, led by Kyle Healy, Brandon Kinsey, Dan Beckner, Zac Arndt, Max Young and Kyle White showed their teamwork and quickness to manhandle then men! Nice to see Ben Porter get some time in the game coming off a sore ankle. Dan Field and Ryan Garvey also played well!

NORTON – Max Young and Kyle Healy led Sturgis with 12 points each as the Storm were able to get 11 different players into the game in a victory over New Testament.
Of those 11, seven of them reached the scorebook – including Dan Fields (3), one of three freshmen making their varsity debut. Aidan Fitzsimmons and Kyle Garvey also made their varsity debuts.

Kyle White added 11 points for the Storm (6-6), who will host Provincetown tomorrow.

NORTON – Kyra Dawaulder and Kayley Mead both scored season-highs last night as Sturgis dispatched New Testament, 51-21.

Dawaulder, who was the Storm's leading scorer with 14, led Sturgis in a game in which every member of the team got to play and seven different players reached the scorebook.

"Maxing" Out: Sturgis, Young Finish Off South Shore

Sturgis 47, South Shore Christian 42

HYANNIS — Max Young scored 17 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and the Storm rallied to a victory over the Warriors at the Hyannis Youth & Community Center.

Sturgis (5-6) held a five point lead at the half but were outscored 20-7 in the third quarter and trailed 38-30 going into the final frame.

It could have been even worse at halftime if Kyle Healy had not nailed a 3-pointer from just inside mid court at the buzzer! Those were the last points scored by any Sturgis player besides Max Young, who simply would not be denied in the final minutes.

But it was far from a one-man show out there. Dan Beckner helped spot Sturgis a 5-point halftime lead with 10 points, while Brandon Kinsey had two 3-pointers, several steals and played his usual stingy defense.

Zac Arndt made a key pass to Young late in the game, leaping out of bounds under the basket to keep the ball in play, to keep the momentum going the Storm's way.

Healy gathered 10 rebounds to go along with his 10 points, Kinsey put forth a stellar effort on defense and sunk two 3-pointers and Young shut down South Shore Christian's big man Joel Forstrom in the fourth quarter.

The boys next game is at New Testament Tuesday, then they host P-Town on Thursday.

S. Shore Christian 61, Sturgis 14

HYANNIS — The Storm could not find an answer for South Shore Christian's strong offense and could not break the defensive trap.

Marley McSweeney had four points, while Kayley Mead and Krupa Patel each added three points as Sturgis drops to 2-9 on the season.

The girls lost, 40-22; but continue a fun season, with a lot of great basketball being played, when they travel to Cape Tech on Monday.

Sturgis 55, New Testament 17

HYANNIS – It was a fun night of basketball last night at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center, as the Storm improved to 4-5 this season with a win over the Knights.

Max Young scored 20 points and Kyle White stepped up to score 10, both showing an impressive effort on the NBA-regulation-length court.

Ben Porter scored eight points and Aidan Arnault added five points.

The Sturgis Stompers Dance team and the Sturgis Cheerleaders also had a great night, entertaining the crowd with excellent halftime shows and during timeouts!

Big Varsity Wins Tuesday!

WALPOLE — Junior Aidan Arnault scored all five of his points in overtime to lead the Sturgis Public Charter School to a 44-40 victory over previously undefeated Norfolk Aggie yesterday.

Norfolk Aggie (2-1) tied the game at 37-all with just seconds to play in regulation, spoiling a 37-31 Sturgis lead with a minute left.

The Storm's leading scorer, junior Max Young, who tallied 19 points, fouled out just before the end of the fourth quarter.

Arnault then scored five of Sturgis' seven overtime points, including 3 of 4 attempts from the free throw line. Junior Brandon Kinsey added a layup in the waning seconds to ice the victory for the Storm.

Sturgis (1-2) was playing without senior starting point guard Kyle Healy, who was out sick. Young filled the spot until fouling out late in the contest.

Kinsey added six points to the Storm offense while senior Zac Arndt had five points.

Chris Ashe led the Rams with 13 points.

Sturgis girls shut down Provincetown

HYANNIS — Although it wasn't pretty, the Sturgis girls' basketball team tasted its first victory of the season yesterday against an ice-cold Province-town squad.

Playing just their second game at the sparkling new Hyannis Youth & Community Center, the Storm (1-2) rode the double-digit scoring of Vani Patel and strong team defense for a 30-17 victory over the visiting Fishermen.

Utilizing an effective full-court press that helped cause 21 turnovers, the Storm led from the opening tip and held off a third quarter surge by Provincetown.

"Our defense was the key against Provincetown," said Sturgis coach Robin Davidson. "We picked them up all over the court and forced a lot of mistakes.

"Our girls stepped up to the plate, played hard and had good shot selection."

The sharpshooting Patel led all scorers for Sturgis with 13 points while Krystal Cappola added seven. Marley McSweeney enjoyed a solid floor game, picking up four points with eight rebounds and adding several steals. Defensively, it was Kayley Mead who was the key for the Storm.

Kate Silva led the Fishermen with seven points and 10 rebounds while Chelsea Roderick chipped in with six points and five rebounds in the losing cause.

Silva closed the gap to 18-12 midway through the second quarter with a layup but a trey by Patel returned Sturgis to a 21-14 lead.

Offensive rebounds by Kyra Dawaulder and Coppola, along with a bank shot by Karlena Corey, in the fourth quarter put the game safely out of reach as Sturgis posted the 13-point victory.

"It's nice coming away with our first win," said Davidson. "Our girls have worked hard and we'll see this same (Provincetown) team again in the Mashpee tournament next week."

The Sturgis boys varsity soccer team lost 3-0 Saturday night in the State Tournament to Dover-Sherborn. Max Young made several excellent saves and Matt French played with a lot of heart and passion all game; but in the end, a deeper, more talented D-S team earned the win.

It marked the final career soccer game for Jason Peterson and Nick Cataldo, who both gave excellent efforts Saturday night.

The Boys finish 7-7-3 on the season, and are looking ahead to a fantastic year next year!

Sturgis' No. 1 Golfer Kozlowski Finishes Strong

With the golf season coming to a close, sophomore Alex Kozlowski made the most of his two postseason opportunities with drastic improvements over last years results. On Friday he led the Sturgis contingent at the Cape and islands Schoolboy Classic, which included senior Ben Porter and senior Chandler Mitchell, with a 27 hole total of 132 at Bayberry Hills Golf Course.

Faced with cold weather and a constant wind he gutted out a 93 in the morning, and managed to card one of only 6 rounds in the 30s with a 39 in the afternoon. With his strong finish Alex finished in a tie for 22nd within a field of over 40 of the Cape and Island's top players (Division 1, 2, & 3).

On Monday a tough 47 on the front was turned around quickly with a fantastic 38 on the back nine to finish with a stellar 85 and a tie for 18th out of 63 players at the State Sectionals. Out of all the present Cape and Islands players Alex finished an impressive 6th, only 4 shots behind the low score. With two years of high school golf left to hone his skills these last two impressive rounds should pave the way for a very successful season in 2010.

Matt French scored two first half goals to give Sturgis a lead that they wouldn't relinquish. His first goal came at 22:39 off a throw in by Connor Decosta. French's second goal was unassisted at 26:06.

In the second half, Sturgis got on the board first with a goal by Jason Peterson with another assist to Decosta at 23:26. UCT scored their only goal on a free kick by Colin Jepson. Freshman Dan Field scored the final goal of the day for Sturgis with an assist to Brandon Kinsey. Kinsey and his brother Will had strong games at midfield for Sturgis to go along with a solid defense from Adrian Baird and Brenton Eddy. Sean McManus played very well for UCT.

Zach Crockford scored a goal early in the second half to tie it up; and goalie Max Young and the Sturgis defense, led by Brenton Eddy, Brandon Kinsey, Adrain Baird and Jason Peterson helped Sturgis earn their first-ever boys soccer point at Cape Cod Academy yesterday afternoon. The boys are 3-3-2 heading into Friday's 7:00 night game vs. Wareham at Old Townhouse Field in Yarmouth.

OSTERVILLE –The Storm's Max Young and Cape Cod Academy's Charlie Lonergan both proved to be brick walls, allowing just one goal each in a Lighthouse Conference draw.

Young allowed a Tyler DeWaltoff goal eight minutes into the match, with DeWaltoff's goal coming off a pass from Andrew Bennie. Young then held the Seahawks (4-3-1) at bay the rest of the way.

Sturgis (3-3-2) did not break through on Lonergan until the first minute of the second half, with Zack Crockford scoring an unassisted goal.

The Seahawks got strong play from Tom Olson while Brandon Kinsey was key for the Storm.

The sun sets on last night's Lighthouse Conference matchup between Sturgis and Provincetown.

Last night the girls varsity soccer team defeated P-Town, 5-0, to even its record at 1-1. It was a memorable team effort in front of a very energetic, supportive nightime crowd at Old Townhouse Field in Yarmouth.

Kelsie O'Connor opened the scoring about midway through the first half, as Sturgis' attack - led by O'Connor, Kayley Mead, Kate Weeks and Erika Lind - had several quality chances. The Provincetown goalie made several excellent saves to keep the game 1-0 at halftime.

Spurred on by an excited crowd of classmates - especially Max Young and many of his boys soccer teammates - the Storm broke the game open in the second half with goals from Erika Lind, Lyndsay Allen, Hayara Cardoso and Vani Patel. Young, the boys varsity goalie, shut out Provincetown earlier in the evening. He had specifically asked that the boys' bus make a stop at Old Townhouse on the way home so members of the boys varsity team could cheer on the girls. It was a good representation of sportsmanship and school spirit, as was the tone and spirit of the positive cheering by Sturgis students!

On Thursday, Sept. 10th the Sturgis Girls Varsity Soccer team started its quest to become the first-ever Sturgis team to make consecutive state-tournament appearances. After a rough opening two minutes, in which Nantucket scored twice, the Sturgis defense settled down and played mostly even with the Whalers. Sturgis lost 3-0; but it's clear that the Storm is poised to have another outstanding regular season.

Liz Lozada and Kate Weeks played well for Sturgis, as did sophomore goaltender Brianne Garner, who made several spectacular saves in the game.

On Monday, March 16th Sturgis begins the spring season with the highest number of athletes ever signed up, over 100!

The baseball team will practice at the Horace Mann Charter School baseball field on Osterville/West Barnstable Road in Martstons Mills. There will be a practice bus leaving Sturgis at 3:20. It will be drop-off only. From Sturgis, follow Route 28 toward Mashpee, and take a right onto Osterville/West Barnstable Road.

The boys and girls tennis teams will practice at CC Community College at 3:45. There will be a practice bus leaving at 3:30. It will be drop-off only. The bus will run all season.

The girls lacrosse team will practice at 4:15 on the field behind Pope John High School, which is next to McKeon Field. The best way for athletes to get to practice is:

1. Proceed out the back door of Sturgis, through the Red Cross parking lot onto South Street.

2. Take a right onto South Street for one block until you get to High School Road.

3. Take a left onto High School Road, and follow it to Pope John High School.

The softball team will meet in the "Pit" at Sturgis at 3:15 (near the back entrance) and walk down to Lopes field together for their 3:45 practice. To get to Lopes Field, follow the directions to Pope John, then proceed along the right field line of McKeon Field, follow the path through the woods, and that will take you to the parking lot of Lopes Field.

For the second time in its history, Sturgis Charter Public School will host an MIAA Tournament Game. It will be the first MIAA Tournament basketball game in school history.

Tip-Off will be Tuesday night at 7 PM at CC Community College. The admission price will be $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Sturgis, at 9-9; will host Southeast Regional, which had a 7-13 record. Sturgis and SE had no common opponents this season.

Girls Win Last game of Season!

Kaylee Bosen was a dominant force, scoring 16 points and playing ferocious defense, as Sturgis beat P-town 32-29. It was the best game of Bosen's career, who finishes as one of the best Sturgis Athletes of all time.

Fellow senior Julia Caldwell had a strong rebounding game and scored three points to contribute to the win. The girls finished up at 4-10. It was a wonderful finish to an excellent building season. Thanks to coach Davidson and Allen for all the fine work they did with such a young team!

Sturgis Storms into State Tourney!

Zac Camp hit a layup with 7.8 seconds to go; and Sturgis held on for a 35-33 win to secure its first-ever berth in the State Basketball Tournament!

Provincetown had beaten Sturgis twice already this season; but the Storm, lifted by a raucous hometown crowd, took a 14-12 lead on a Mark Ode halftime buzzer-beater and never fell behind again. Ode led Sturgis with 14 points, while junior Kyle Healy stepped up at guard and scored 6. Camp finished with 8. Max Young added 5.

P-Town's Komnen Saric, who kept P-Town in the game in the third quarter, hit three 3-pointers and led all scorers with 15.

Sturgis' suffocating defense, led by Jason Finkelstein, held Cody Silva to 11 points. A key play came midway through the second half, when Finkelstein ran the length of the floor to stymie what looked like an easy layup for Humberto Ortega. Sturgis picked up the loose ball and scored a basket on the other end.

That type of energy and effort earned Sturgis the win.

Sturgis built an 11-point lead late in the third quarter; but 3-pointers by Saric and Ortega made it 27-24 early in the fourth quarter. From that point on Sturgis simply wanted it more; and found a way to hold on.

Ben Porter came off the bench and scored a key basket to make it 33-28; but P-Town rallied back to tie. Then Camp scored his basket with 7.8 seconds left after a scramble for a loose ball.

WEST BARNSTABLE – Cape Cod Academy’s Kendra Hickman accounted for more than half of her team’s points with 19, and the Seahawks used height to their advantage in a win over the Storm.

Sturgis, playing with all sophomores and freshmen except for Kaylee Bosen; kept the game within 6-8 points right until the very end. Freshman Marly McSweeney and Bosen each had 10 points for Sturgis (3-10).

Sophomores Kayley Mead and Brittany Korbel played excellent defense throughout the game. Freshmen Krystal Cappola and Kyra Dawaulder also had strong games for the young Storm.

Mollie Kinlin chipped in with 10 points and Shannon McRoberts added six points for CCA (4-10).

Sturgis Boys Fall to CCA

WEST BARNSTABLE – Erik Wisniowski finished with a game-high 11 points and Cape Cod Academy inched closer to an MIAA postseason berth with a Lighthouse Conference victory over the Storm.

Brian Morris (nine points) and Tom Olson were standouts on defense for the Seahawks, who improve to 10-8 overall (3-3 Lighthouse). Their two victories over Falmouth Academy don’t count for MIAA purposes, so they need one more game to clinch a playoff bid.

Mark Ode led with 10 points for Sturgis (8-9, 0-5 Lighthouse), which needs to beat Provincetown on Thursday at home to qualify for South Sectionals.

After trailing 20-13 at the break, the Storm matched the Seahawks point for point in the second half. Andrew Healy (five points) hit a shot to tie it at 26 for the Storm before an old-fashioned three-point play by Morris put CCA ahead to stay.

Tough Weekend for Hoop Teams

The Sturgis basketball teams faced some tough competition this weekend and competed well; but didn't have any wins to show for it.

On Friday, over 40 Sturgis athletes headed out to Nantucket for three basketball games. The boys varsity had its closest game ever with Nantucket, but lost 69-57.

Max Young led Sturgis with 14 points.

The girls lost 57-14, and the Boys JV lost by 20.

On Sunday, Zac Camp scored 17 points in a 47-38 loss at Maimonides. The girls lost a defensive battle, 32-20, as Kaylee Bosen (6 points) and Crystal Cappolla (5 points) led the scoring.

Mark Ode discusses the final minute of Monday's game

Sturgis went into the gym of the No. 1 team in the Mayflower Conference, Old Colony, and came away with a 33-32 victory thanks to some last minute heroics.

Senior Mark Ode blocked a shot with two seconds left to seal the win; and he also led the team on offense with 10 points. Junior Ben Porter hit a key skyhook in the final minute; and sophomore Max Young made some clutch free-throws to give Sturgis the 33-32 lead that Ode's block preserved.

"I can't describe how good this feels," said Ode. "And then when I got home from the game, I got my acceptance letter to Western New England College. This is one of the best days of my life!" Old Colony (13-3 overall, 6-0 league), one of the top Div. 4 teams this season, had defeated Sturgis by nine points earlier this season; but Sturgis' trademark defense kicked in and the boys kept their poise to come back from a 4-point deficit in the final minute. Sturgis, now 7-6 on the season, travels to New Testament on Thurday afternoon and Nantucket on Friday. This is the deepest into the season that a Sturgis basketball team has ever had a winning record. Keep up the great work!

Old Colony Girls 47, Sturgis 25

The Sturgis girls varsity played hard until the end against a tough Old Colony team last night at CC Community College. Senior Kaylee Bosen led the way on offense and defense, with seven points and numerous blocks and steals. Julia Caldwell scored four points and worked hard as always on both ends of the court.

Old Colony is undefeated and in first place in the Mayflower League, but the young Sturgis squad competed well once again! Sophomore Brittany Korbel scored four points, while freshman Marley McSweeney also played well.

On Friday, Sturgis took two out of three games from visiting SS Christian.

Max Young, Zac Camp and Brandon Kinsey led the boys to a 48-44 win that was close all the way! Brandon Kinsey had two 3-pointers. Brian Isaacs and Ben Porter also had big baskets for Sturgis. Jason Finkelstein played his usual brand of pesky defense. Kyle Healy also nailed a 3-pointer.

The girls lost 71-32; bus as usual the young Storm played hard all game. Vani Patel, Kaylee Bosen and Brittany Korbel stood out for the Storm.

The boys jv won their second in a row, 50-43, behind some strong play from Aiden Arneault, Jacob Henry, Ryan Garvey and Nick Cataldo.

The Sturgis Boys Varsity Basketball team came back to defeat the faculty, 43-41, on senior Mark Ode's last-second basket!
It was a close game throughout, with the Faculty storming out to a 19-13 lead at one point. The boys opened up a seven-point lead in the last few minutes; but Mr. Newcombe made some key free throws, along with baskets by Mr. McKay and Mr. Hillebrand. Golf Coach Ryan Potter, Mr. Marble, Mr. Andre, Mr. Steedman, Mr. Barr and Mr. Hillebrand all contributed offensively, with Mr. Barrasso and Mr. Fetzer giving some much-needed bench help - and comic relief! Don't Miss The Biggest, Craziest Sturgis Sports Event Of The Year!

This Friday the mighty Sturgis Faculty, led by Associate Director Chris "The Crimson Viking" Andre, will challenge the Sturgis Boys Varsity in the Third Annual Faculty vs. Varsity Basketball Game. Also playing for the faculty will be Mr. Steedman, Mr. Newcombe, Mr. Marble, Mr. Hillebrand and many others.

The game starts at 7:00 at Cape Cod Community College, but make sure you arrive early to get a good seat. This event is usually standing-room only. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for students.

Boys Blast South Shore

The Boys Varsity upped its record to 5-5 with a convincing 66-32 win over SS Christian at CC Community College last night.

The Storm defense was suffocating; while the offense was as sharp as it's ever been! This led to a 19-3 first quarter lead. Mark Ode (12), Zac Camp (14) and Andrew Healy (12) led a balanced offensive attack.

"We played really, really well, and we never let up," said coach Porter. "Out of 30 field goals, we had 21 assists."

That's exactly the type of team basketball the Storm will need Friday night at Cape Cod Academy!

Schedule Changes for Tuesday
